Sandra Lee Mayfield Hughes was born on Jan. 18, 1940, in Modesto, California to J.C. and Frances Mayfield. She walked into the arms of Jesus on Oct. 14, 2023, while surrounded by her family.

She moved to Seminole in 1953 as a freshman in high school. Upon graduation she moved to Lubbock to attend Texas Tech University. She worked for Sanford Insurance and Bill Kingsbury Insurance while in Lubbock. She married the love of her life, Karl Don Hughes on Aug. 5, 1960, in Seminole.

Sandra was a business owner and master in the kitchen, but her best role was as a wife, mother, Grams, homemaker and a friend to many. She served alongside Karl Don who is a deacon at First Baptist Church Seminole since 1980. She served as a Sunday school teacher, women’s bible study teacher, counselor and mentor to many, as well as various other roles. She is preceded in death by her parents J.C. and Frances; her two brothers Bobby and Richard; sister, Glenna Bean and half-sister, Betty Black. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Karl Don, four children Greg (Wanda), Kammy (Bill), Kelly (Cassie) and Terri all of Seminole; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and her life-long friend, Joyce Hargrove.

Visitation was held on Monday, Oct. 16, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. at Ratliff Funeral Home in Seminole. Services will be held on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Seminole. Arrangements are under the direction of Troy Ratliff and Ratliff Funeral Home of Seminole.
