a surge in book readership in rural areas due to the arrival of the Texas State Lib rary’s new red and white bookmo bile. This t r ave l ing library served Gaines, Dawson, Terry and Yoakum counties with a book circulation of 6,000 plus books that were headquartered in Seagraves at the Hearne freight office. The bookmobile traveled to more than 3 dozen locations and the route was repeated every three weeks. Scheduled stops included churches, grocery & farm stores, community centers, gas stations, cafes, cotton gins, libraries, and courthouses for a 40 - minute to a two - hour visit. The one-year program was developed at the request of the four Commissioner’s Courts to nurture cooperative practices among existing libraries, and emphasize the value of an interlibrary loan system. The Seminole and Seagraves libraries have continued to serve the readers of Gaines County and their summer reading program promises to be an adventure for all ages. Registration begins Tuesday, May 28, 2024…and please visit the museum after spending time at the library this summer.
