GCAD: Unpaid 2017 Delinquent Property Taxes to be Turned Over to Collection July 1

June 6, 2018

On February 1, 2018 the 2017 taxes become delinquent and began to accumulate penalty and interest as required by Texas Property Tax Laws.

On July 1, 2018 the unpaid 2017 taxes will be turned over to an attorney for collection and an additional 20 percent collection cost will be added.

Texans aged 65 or older can postpone paying delinquent taxes on their homestead by taking advantage of the over-65 tax deferral, according to Gayla Harridge, Chief

Appraiser of the Gaines County Appraisal District.  Harridge stressed, though that tax deferral for the elderly only postpones paying delinquent taxes on the homestead; it does not cancel them.

During the deferral period taxes and delinquent penalties and interest continue to add up.  For more information taxpayers can contact the Gaines County Appraisal District at 302 S. E. Avenue B, Seminole (432) 758-3263.
