A one-game playoff will determine the fate between the Seminole Maidens (15-14) and the Borger Lady Bulldogs (18-12), as the teams will battle Friday evening at Lubbock Estacado High School.

First pitch of the Class 4A, Bi-District playoff is slated for 7 p.m. at Lady Matador Field. The Maidens (15-14 overall) will be the designated visiting team in Friday’s contest, where the winner will advance to the Class 4A Area Championship playoff round against the winner of Fabens/Midland Greenwood.…

Golf: SHS’ Robledo Qualifies for 4A State Tourney; Indians Place 8th at Regionals

LUBBOCK — A repeat UIL Class 4A State Tournament bid for the 2017 edition of the Seminole Indian boys golf program fell short of their pre-season goal on Thursday.
However, for one SHS senior, the chance to garner a state title as an individual medalist lives on.

SHS senior Aaron Robledo fired rounds of 73 on Wednesday and Thursday to finish with a two-day total of 146, which placed him in a tie for fourth place individually and qualified him as one of three individual medalists — who were not members of state qualifying teams — to advance to the 2017 University Interscholastic League’s Class 4A State Golf Championships.…

Golf: Robledo Currently 3rd Individually at 1-4A Regionals

LUBBOCK — Seminole senior Aaron Robledo currently sits in third place heading into the final round of the 2017 Class 4A, Region I Boys Golf Championships, following opening round action held Wednesday at Shadow Hills Golf Course.

Robledo fired a round of one over-par 73 on the 18-hole, par-72 course, trailing Big Spring’s Nolan Otto and Pampa’s Bryce Parker, who fired rounds of 71 and 72, respectively.…

Golf: Maidens Secure State Tourney Berth Tuesday

LUBBOCK — For the first time in nearly three decades, the Seminole Maiden golf team will be sending a five-some to the University Interscholastic League’s State Tournament.

Behind a round of three over par 75 from SHS senior Lauren Franco, the Maidens finished with a Tuesday team score of 315 — nine strokes lower than their Monday total of 324 — to clinch second place honors at the 2017 UIL’s Class 4A, Region I Girls Golf Championships held at Shadow Hills Golf Course.…

Babe Ruth League Registration Underway

Registration is currently underway for the 2017 Seminole Babe Ruth Baseball league.

The local league is open to players 13-years of age to 18 years old, and will be divided between various age groups.

Registration is $70 per player and the application deadline is April 26.

Tryouts for the league will be held April 29, at the Indios baseball field, located on CR103, near the Seminole Rodeo Arena.…

Texas leases more land, but gets lower prices amid oil slump

AUSTIN (AP) — The demand to lease Texas’ publicly held land for energy exploration has increased since last summer, despite low oil prices — but it generated lower average prices.

Land Commissioner George P. Bush announced Tuesday that his office had auctioned leases for about 14,000 acres.

That yielded around $84 million, or an average of less than $5,900 per acre, for the Permanent School Fund, which helps cover some public education costs.…
